Jen + Matt's Munising Wedding

I can still remember the day I got a message from Jen in my inbox. As soon as she told me her and Matt were planning on having a small, intimate beach wedding in Munising, Mi, my heart got so excited! I love traveling, the UP, Lake Superior, waterfalls, hiking, basically everything the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is about, so I knew right away that I needed to document their wedding day and their love. Jen and Matt wanted a simple wedding with just their closest friends and family, and obviously their dog, Gus, who is just such a GOOD BOY!

I felt so inspired by the simplicity of their day and their go with the flow attitudes. We did the most unique first look I've ever curated right outside their motel, and then from there went to Munising Falls. Their ceremony was on Miner's beach with the beautiful Pictured Rocks in the background. After the ceremony we walked up on the bluff where Jen and Matt put in earphones and had a private first dance right on the North Country Trail. It was so beautiful and romantic, and honestly overwhelming witnessing such a pure and loving moment between two people. After their dance and some family photos, we went to Castle Rock, and from there on to Miner's Falls. They were so unbelievably awesome and trusting of me the whole day. For real, these two, who were both dressed in all white, hiked to the falls with me, then hiked down even further to the actual waterfall. It wasn't super easy getting down to the falls and back up, but these two did it with zero complaints, AND they didn't even have a speck of dirt on them when they were done. That is talent, people. Oh and also when we were walking back to the cars this little girl asked "Why is there a princess here?" referring to Jen, and we both almost cried. Because you can still have a fairy tail wedding and feel like a princess while keeping your wedding day reflective of who you are as person, and who you are as a couple. Jen and Matt, I can't thank you enough to asking me to photograph your wedding. Congratulations!

Last June I shot Jamie's sister's wedding in Lansing, Mi, so when her younger sister hit me up and asked if I could photograph her March wedding at the Goei Center in Grand Rapids, I knew we were in for another super awesome wedding! The Hibbler's are such a kind and fun family, I'm sad we're out of sisters! This was actually my first time shooting at the Goei, and well, I'm obsessed. SUCH a cool venue, and the people working there are SO nice!

I'd like to give a shout out to Easten Floral for the amazingggg bouquet! They always do good work and I highly recommend them. Also to Rod Capenter of Hot Beats Entertainment for being THE best DJ in Michigan.

Flowers everywhere, moonshine, moss running the tables, apples on sticks, the absolute best food eaten on palm leaf plates and wooden cutlery... DJ and Natalie had the most beautiful, intimate backyard wedding in Eaton Rapids, Mi. Being wedding florists themselves, the ceremony and reception were filled with the most gorgeous arrangements. I loved the fun, easy going nature of DJ and Natalie, and you could feel the intense, yet seemingly effortless way they love each other. I'm honestly so happy and honored that I got to be a part of such a great day. Thanks again, Natalie and DJ! Congratulations!

Huge props to Bel- Fiori's Rose Shoppe and Eve Floral Co for all of the amazing floral arrangements! They clearly do amazing work.

"They say love is blind.  I disagree.  Infatuation is blind.  Love is all-seeing and accepting.  Love is seeing the flaws and blemishes and accepting them.  Love is accepting the bad habits and mannerisms, and working around them.  Love is recognizing all the fears and insecurities, and knowing your role is to comfort.  Love is working through all the challenges and painful times.  Infatuation is fragile and will shatter when life is not perfect.  Love is strong and it strengthens because it is real" -Author Unknown

I can't say enough good things about Kris and Hillary. They are incredibly kind, fun, welcoming, easy going, and so obviously in love. They invited me to Montana to photograph their wedding, and it was one of the most fun weeks ever! We all stayed at Chico Hot Springs Resort in Pray, Montana where the wedding was also held. Chico Hot Springs is such a beautiful place, and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. I honestly feel so grateful that I was asked to be a part of this amazing trip, and that I got to capture this wedding. Kris, Hillary, thank you so much, I wish you the best! Congratulations!

Wedding days. Anyone who has been married knows what a thrill weddings are. The day starts a little more relaxed, the bride hanging out with her bridesmaids, sipping champagne and getting ready, while the groom and his groomsmen maybe play a nice round of golf. Then, as the day starts to advance, the ceremony gets closer, and the nerves start. Its such a big day, and there are so many eyes all on you. Imagine being a groom, standing up at the alter. Clammy hands, shaky fingers, nervous smiles, anxiously awaiting the sight of his bride. And then you finally see her, and she's even more stunning and gorgeous than you even thought possible. Tears might fill your eyes as she slowly walks closer and closer. But then, as she comes to you, you can't talk or hug or kiss her for maybe up to an hour. Then, after the ceremony, bride and groom pictures are a little rushed, knowing friends and family are waiting at the reception.

This is why I love first looks. It has all of the emotion and excitement of seeing your bride for the first time in her dress, but its so much more intimate. Its just you two and the photographer. You have time to hug, and cry, and kiss, and talk. The one person who can calm your nerves, will be able to do just that before you have to stand in front of a room full of people. After taking your time to embrace and say hello, you can easily go into romantic bride and groom photos. Since you can schedule the first look as far in advance as you would like, you have a stress free time to take photos together. No awaiting guests, no coordinator or DJ saying "Five more minutes!" The scene can be set up with a gorgeous background, and in great lighting, allowing for truly beautiful, emotion filled photos. You just couldn't get photos like this during a ceremony.

Thank you SO MUCH to Josiah Gentry Photography for letting me assist him with this wedding at Frederik Meijer Gardens here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I had so much photographing this beautiful couple. Congratulations Lisa and Colby!
